Review — Phantom Shadows by Dianne Duvall

Didn’t think I’d like this one as much as I did. I wasn’t necessarily a big fan of Sebastian (he’s the black sheep of the immortal family) and Melanie hasn’t played a big role in the previous books. Having said that, Bastian totally grew on me! Fell in love with both him and Melanie. They’re a great PNR pairing.

In addition to the continuing plot twists in the overall story (again I was completely surprised…hand clapping for Ms. Duvall), I love the dialogue between the characters. Some of the scenes had me laughing out loud!

Kudos to Ms. Duvall for hooking me into her story. Love this paranormal romance series!

Review — Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh

Okay, let me just preface this by saying that I really love Nalini Singh’s Guild Hunter series. Sometimes when I enjoy a series so much I have a hard time jumping into another series by the same author. (It kind of feels like I’m betraying the first series by reading the other one. I know that sounds weird, but it is what it is). Because of my quirk, I was hesitant to start this series, but from the get-go the premise fascinated me. Different races exist in this world—Changeling, Psy, and human. Changelings are shifters, Psy are cerebral beings who undergo conditioning to learn to be emotionless. Psy also are inter-connected mentally in a sort of web interface. Totally cool. So when one emotionless Psy believes she’s going mad because she’s starting to experience fractures in her psyche by falling for the hot, dominant alpha of the DarkRiver pack things become very interesting.

I’ve always enjoyed Ms. Singh’s ability to create real characters with emotional depth—Lucas and Sascha are no different. Sascha believes she’s a weak, damaged Psy when she’s far from it and Lucas is a tough alpha leopard who has faced great loss and is overprotective of his pack as a result. Great storyline and fantastic characters combined with a hot romance make for an incredible PNR read.

Review — Dragon Bound by Thea Harrison

One of the great things about Goodreads.com is the reviews. I’ve found some wonderful, passionate readers who write terrific reviews and because of their reviews, I read some incredible books. DRAGON BOUND is the result of such a review and I most likely wouldn’t have discovered the book otherwise. So, did DRAGON BOUND live up to my expectations? Well, let’s just say it’s one of my favorite books so far this year. Now, I know it’s only four months into 2014, but I read a lot so my statement says a lot.

If you love dragons, griffons, strong alpha males, and one funny, fantastic heroine then you won’t go wrong with DRAGON BOUND. But don’t just take my word for it, read the reviews!

Review — Night Reigns by Dianne Duvall

Wow! This is really turning out to be an interesting story. I didn’t see the new plot twists coming at all. I really enjoyed Marcus in the first book, DARKNESS DAWNS, so I’m glad he got top billing in NIGHT REIGNS. Ami is an intriguing heroine who I’ve rooted for from the very beginning. So glad they got their happily ever after.

What I find so fascinating about this series is the overall story that is developing throughout all the books. Ms. Duvall gives the reader just enough hints to tantalize, but not enough to solve the puzzles. I’m so curious to see where she takes this series as a whole and the surprises she has in store for the reader. What a great different take on the vampire/immortal genre.

Review — Darkness Dawns by Dianne Duvall

A friend recommended DARKNESS DAWNS to me and after reading this book, I must admit that my friends have really great taste! DARKNESS DAWNS was a fast, enjoyable read. The writing was sharp and witty and the dialogue kept me engaged. Although I really enjoyed the main characters, Sarah and Roland, the secondary characters also were engaging. Ms. Duvall left some very interesting questions unanswered, which will ensure that I keep reading this series, but still provided closure and the HEA I long for in a paranormal romance.

Strong alpha males, kickass heroines, a sizzling romance, and a happily-ever-after ending equal a delicious read!

Review — Twice Tempted by Jeaniene Frost

So, I raved about ONCE BURNED, the first in the Night Prince series. I went on and on in my review about how fantastic ONCE BURNED was then I read TWICE TEMPTED and Jeaniene Frost exceeded all my expectations. Although I didn’t think it possible, I enjoyed TWICE TEMPTED more than ONCE BURNED. Ms. Frost gives the reader more insight into Vlad and the reasoning why he is so cold to Leila at times. It’s not that he doesn’t love Leila, he’s terrified of loving her too much, losing her, then having to endure the pain of her loss.

Leila is just as stubborn and strong-willed as ever, honing her skills while enduring great highs and lows in her life. Together they make a dynamic, incredible couple.

So, I’ve been told that the Night Prince series is a spinoff of Ms. Frost’s extremely popular Night Huntress series. Although I’ve read the first book in the Night Huntress series, in my haste, I also started this series. Because the characters from Night Huntress bleed over into this one, there were a couple of scenes where I missed some backstory as a result of not reading all the Night Huntress books first. However, that minor bump in the road didn’t stop me from immensely enjoying this book…as you can see from my review. You will not be disappointed with these books, no matter where you start!

Review — Fated by Rebecca Zanetti

Fantastic Start to a Series!

For those who’ve been fans of the Dark Protectors series since the beginning, you’re probably wondering where the hell I’ve been. Well, all I can say in my defense is that I was a little slow. Actually, after starting a string of books that I couldn’t finish, I was growing dismayed in my inability to find something to sink my teeth into (pardon the pun). But thankfully, Ms. Zanetti restored my faith in great storytelling.

FATED by Rebecca Zanetti is a wonderful start to the Dark Protectors series. I love Ms. Zanetti’s writing style…absolutely love it! Her dialogue is sharp and witty while the storyline is a fantastic twist on the vampire theme. The heroine, Cara, is everything I look for in a lead character—strong, smart, passionate, funny—but not perfect. Talen is amazing, possessing all the attributes of a larger than life hero. He’s one HOT male!

For paranormal readers who like a good vampire story, I truly believe you’ll enjoy Dark Protectors. And for those fans who’ve already read SHADOWED (the 8th book in the series) and are now waiting in the bleachers with bated breath for the next one, well, scoot over. Although I still have 6 books to read, I’ll be sitting beside ya soon.

Review — Claimed by Rebecca Zanetti

Since I’m starting to sound like a broken record concerning Rebecca Zanetti’s Dark Protectors series, I’ll most likely make this my last review and just rate the rest as I read them. CLAIMED is my favorite in the series so far. I loved Emma, and Dage is a hero to die for. Ms. Zanetti’s witty dialogue and sense of humor between the characters makes the book a fun, exciting read.

What I truly admire about Ms. Zanetti’s style is that she introduces secondary characters gradually, but integrates them in such a way that by the next book, I’m eager to read more about these well fleshed out personalities. That’s talent, and what a great way to hook the reader on the next book…like me!

CLAIMED, just another great book by a great author.

Review — Tempted by Rebecca Zanetti

It’s been a long time since I sat down and read a book in one sitting…a long time. And I fell into TEMPTED by accident. I’d signed up for a giveaway of Ms. Zanetti’s latest release, SHADOWED over at Tome Tender Book Blog (http://tometender.blogspot.com/), although I didn’t win, the book sounded interesting. Then while scanning through my Kindle looking for the next read, I saw that I had TEMPTED. What a great discovery TEMPTED and Ms. Zanetti turned out to be. TEMPTED is a wonderful take on the whole vampire genre. I like Ms. Zanetti’s entire concept about mates and extra chromosomes. Her writing style is sharp, sassy, and super sexy. I absolutely loved the hero, Max, and heroine, Sarah. Her secondary characters also were a joy and fleshed out extremely well.

Ms. Zanetti’s technique drew me in and the real world disappeared as I stayed up into the wee hours finishing TEMPTED. I’m not sure if I should thank Ms. Zanetti or chastise her for my lack of sleep.

If I have one complaint it’s that the ending seemed rushed. I wanted more! But I guess that’s what good writing is all about, leaving the reader wanting more and that’s what Ms. Zanetti did, left me wanting. Looks like TEMPTED is the third book in the Dark Protectors series, so I’ll have to start at the beginning, but TEMPTED worked as a standalone. And now that I’ve hopped onto the Dark Protectors series bandwagon, I’m sure I won’t regret the ride. A well deserved 5 stars!
